BOZEMAN- A MSU native American studies professor starts a website to help veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Larry Gross says there have been reports that the number of Vietnam veterans that committed suicide more or less equals the number of individuals killed in service in Vietnam, which is about 50,000 to 55,000, and he does not want to see that in the future.
Click here to visit the Veteran Ceremonies website.
"I found that going through ceremonies helped American Indian veterans of Vietnam cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and when I looked around it seemed very many no Indian groups were doing ceremonies to help non-Indian vets, so I thought it would be a good idea to borrow ideas and see if we could get non indian groups to develop ceremonies for non Indian vets."
The site is dedicated to his Uncle Leo, a Marine who was killed in Vietnam in 1966. Gross is picking up the entire cost, saying he wants to give back to those who have served.
